Plainview is a neighborhood within the town of Oyster Bay in Long Island, New York. Plainview shares a library, school system, fire department, and water district with the neighboring community of Old Bethpage. Plainview's history dates back to 1948, when Robert Williams, a Welsh settler bought land in the area. Remaining land in the area was purchased by Thomas Powell in 1695 as a part of the Bethpage Purchase. The town was evenutally named Plainview after its view of the Hempstead Plains from the tops of the hills. Originally a farming community, Plainview eventually transformed into a sprawling suburb on Long Island. It is a very diverse community, with people of several religions and backgrounds who call it home.

Plainview is a part of the Plainview-Old Bethpage School District, which operates four public middle schools (Parkway Elementary, Pasadena Elementary, Old Bethpage Elementary, and Stratford Road Elementary), two public middle schools (Howard B. Mattlin Middle School and Plainview-Old Bethpage Middle School), and one public high school (Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School).

Plainview also has several community parks open to residents and visitors. The Plainview-Old Bethpage Community Park contains 19-acres and features an Olympic sized pool, a children's pool, softball and baseball fields, tennis courts, racquetball and handball courts, basketball courts, a children's playground and trails throughout the woods. Plainview is also home to the Manetto Hills nature preserve park.
